Scott Karp thinks that Every Newspaper Journalist Should Start A Blog. Why? Well, he has a lot of reasons. The one I liked: “Putting your career on a growth track by not defining yourself as a print journalist.” Good advice.
Barbara Ehrenreich at The Huffington Post has an incredible article about the fact that pasadenanow.com is recruiting reporters in India to write about Pasadena… California, I think. A must-read. (Special thanks to The Copywriter Underground for pointing me to this.)

It seems “Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is pressing the U.S. Congress to enact a sweeping intellectual-property bill that would increase criminal penalties for copyright infringement, including “attempts” to commit piracy.” How do you prove attempted copyright infringement (as the header to this story states)? how do you prove attempted piracy? What would this mean to online media?
Shock jocks Opie and Anthony didn’t get the memo that “anything goes” is no longer the status quo in American radio. XM Satellite Radio suspended them for 30 days for “crude sex comments about Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth and one day after making light of the incident in their broadcast.” What shocks me is that XM did it, not one of the standard radio networks. Do I agree with the suspension? I don’t know. But I do know that after what happened to Imus, everyone should have taken a good look at what can happen if you overestimate your right to free speech.
Cosentino North America, a Houston-based countertop maker, has hired Candice Olson as national spokesperson. Candice’s claim to fame is HGTV. Why? As reported by Houston Business Journal, “Candice brings in-depth knowledge of interior design and an engaging personality to her role as national spokesperson for Silestone — qualities that will generate valuable consumer awareness”

I’m working my way through Paco Underhill’s Why We Buy. I picked up this book out of curiosity. I didn’t think there’d be anything in the book that directly addressed what I do, and I was very very wrong.
Definitely worth a read if you want to learn how people decide to buy, stop to look and assimilate information in a physical storefront.
